New 2018 Volkswagen Atlas in Kalamazoo, MI

With the New 2018 Volkswagen Atlas in Kalamazoo, You've Got the Whole World in Your Hands

If you took road trips before the age of the GPS, you're probably familiar with the aged-paper smell of a World Atlas. A simple, oversized book of maps that helped drivers to navigate to new corners of a county, state, or the entire country.

The beloved old paper atlas may have been the inspiration for the all-new 2018 Volkswagen Atlas three-row SUV. It's the first of its kind for the brand, and it's something that drivers have been calling for for years. While VW has been designing and building effective and comfortable crossovers for years, they've never really been able to compete for the favor of big families. That's why the new Atlas is a game-changer for Battle Creek and Portage, MI drivers.

Trim levels in the new lineup include the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas S, Atlas V6 S, Atlas V6 S with 4MOTION, Atlas V6 Launch Edition (for the first model-year), Atlas V6 Launch Edition with 4MOTION (also for the first model-year), Atlas V6 SE, Atlas V6 SE with 4MOTION, Atlas V6 SE with Technology, Atlas V6 SE with Tech. and 4MOTION, Atlas V6 SEL, Atlas V6 SEL with 4MOTION, and Volkswagen Atlas V6 SEL Premium with 4MOTION.

An inspired exterior fit for families

Solid, unwavering consistency is a staple of the VW lineup. So, it's not too surprising that none of the design language or exterior details on the Volkswagen Atlas are particularly out-of-sorts for the usual. Look at the grille, the wheel arches, or the roofline--at the heart of it all, it's classic Volkswagen. Just a lot bigger. From the bumpers to the doors to the window glass, everything about the new VW Atlas, is VW XL.

Three Rivers families will love it for its space and strength, but it's a clean, crisp look that can appeal to just about anyone.

The family SUV gets a major interior upgrade

Gone are the days of the cheerio-dust-covered minivans. Now, families of five or more have a lot more options to choose from--and the new Volkswagen Atlas is a seriously tempting option. The cabin is luxuriously-appointed and designed with stoic Germanic practicality in mind. When you settle into the driver's seat, everything is close at hand, comfortable, and sensible. You can control everything from volume, to phone calls, to cruising speeds, within easy reach.

The 2018 Atlas isn't just easy on the eyes, though--it's pretty smart, too. The infotainment system uses the brand's exclusive technology, Volkswagen Car-Net App-Connect, to run audio and media, maps, and more. Don't worry, diehard smartphone users--Apple CarPlay and Android Auto both run seamlessly on this system. The Atlas also includes, on higher trim levels, a new Volkswagen Digital Cockpit system with full-color 12.3" display. It put all of your top information and vehicle details right in front of your eyes.

One big step for three-row SUVs

The three-row Atlas is setting whole new standards for the class. This large VW crossover can seat six or seven passengers, with either second-row Captain's Chairs (2-2-2 configuration) or a second-row bench seat (2-3-2 configuration). Whichever setup you choose in Plainwell, though, the VW Atlas boasts class-leading 3rd-row legroom, so you won't offend your back-seat passengers. For the drivers who are shopping for a serious child-friendly vehicle, the Atlas provides LATCH anchors for up to five car/booster seats.

We know what you're thinking: "What about the cup holders?"

Ok, maybe the average Kalamazoo shopper isn't thinking that, but if you frequently travel with a whole herd of little ones, cup holders are something you probably think about before you buy a car. Good news: the new Atlas has seventeen. That comes out to roughly 2.43 cup holders per passenger when fully-loaded with people. Snacks, drinks, and French fries can abound.

It's more than just cupholders, though--this news is big. Really big. So big, in fact, that the 2018 Atlas gives up an impressive 20.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third-row seat alone; fold that down for 55.5 cubic feet of storage; slap that second row down, too, and 96.8 cubic feet of cargo space is yours to use.

Safer than safe

The new 2018 Volkswagen Atlas was designed with something called a "Safety Cage". Most modern vehicles have intelligently-designed crumple zones to minimum injury to passengers in the event of a crash or collision, but the Atlas' Safety Cage improves those zones front and back to be able to optimally distribute crash force away from passengers. However, thanks to a huge array of available driver-assistance features.

The feature list looks like this:

  • Front Assist
  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Blind Spot Monitor
  • Lane Assist
  • Light Assist (Automatic High Beam Control)
  • Overhead View Camera (Area View)
  • Rearview Camera Systems
  • Rear Traffic Alert Systems
  • Park Assist and Park Pilot
  • Automatic Post-Collision Braking System
  • Intelligent Crash Response System (ICRS)

That's a lot.

A solid Volkswagen warranty

When you're shopping around for your next family vehicle, you don't want to have to plan for the costs of repairs or unexpected services within the first few years. That's where the convenience of a new-vehicle warranty comes in. This is where the new 2018 Volkswagen Atlas has a big leg up over the competition: it comes standard with VW's 6-year/72,000-mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty. There are only a few other new SUVs that can match that kind of warranty coverage, and the Atlas is far and beyond the one that you'd rather drive.

Extensive coverage, spacious cargo areas, versatile seating options, intelligent tech, AND seventeen cup holders? What more could you want in a seven-seater SUV?
