Daily Thrills In the Practical, State-of-the-Art 2018 Audi A4

Life moves fast, and for those who like their play time in the fast lane, the 2018 Audi A4 will give you that, and a practical daily ride you can be proud of. But you may be inclined to ignore that last part. With exhilarating sport sedan performance, the latest in connectivity, convenience, and safety technologies, and eye-catching styling, you might find the A4's class-leading interior volume and impressive gas mileage far from your mind.

Traditionalists who prefer classic shapes and athletic proportions, and those who love chiseled, sporting lines will find little to quibble over with the A4's design. Up front, Audi's Singleframe grille is flanked by narrow xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights for an aggressive leading edge, and a strong, deep character line runs from nose to tail, providing a solid stance. Higher trims get the S-Line appearance kit, with unique front and rear bumpers, and side-sill blades.

Competing German sport sedans all have one thing in common: you pay extra for leather. But not in the A4, or may of our other new 2018 Audi models, for that matter. Accompanied by aluminum or wood trim, the A4's cockpit is comfortable, spacious, and tech-forward. Audi MMI is standard on a 7-inch screen above the center stack, while those with the gorgeous Virtual Cockpit infotainment system get an 8.3-inch unit. While the climate controls have digital readouts, the interface itself gets buttons and knobs-which is increasingly becoming a thing of the past in luxury cars.

The 2018 A4 comes in two flavors-Ultra and Quattro. Both come with the same 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine, but the former gets 190 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque with FWD and the Quattro gets 252 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque with AWD. Both are surprisingly efficient, with Ultra models returning 27 mpg city/37 mpg highway, and quattro models garnering 24 mpg city/34 mpg highway. A 7-speed dual-clutch automatic and six-speed manual are offered, as well as optional sport suspension for better cornering performance.

Most of the 2018 A4's features can be had either by upgrading to a higher trim, or through packages and options. Standard fair on each is Audi pre sense city and basic, as well as leather upholstery, and Audi MMI. Packages range from warm and cold weather options to sport and driver assistance, visual flair, and tires. Among the highlights are Virtual Cockpit and Audi Connect, the Driver Assistance bundle with adaptive cruise control, and traffic sign recognition, and the sport package with the optional suspension.
